The Countryside Leader Award (CLA) is for adults who wish to lead walks and camping expeditions in non-remote, lowland countryside. Perfect if you are leading Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award expeditions in local and low land terrain. This is the quickest and cheapest ways for adult leaders to gain a nationally recognised award. The qualification is seen as adequate evidence of a person's technical competence to lead groups, by Adventurous Activity Licencing Authority (AALA) and the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel.
The course is split into the following parts:
Exemption - if you have attended training for Walking Group Leader, Hill & Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader you are exempt from the training element of the course. You must registered directly with the CLA before signing up to this course
We run regular training and assessment courses in the Suffolk/Essex area throughout the year.
Most organisations will require you to have your trip signed off by the Educational Visits Coordinator. You will need to have appropriately qualified staff as part of the organisations risk assessment for that activity.
This qualification will cover you for most camping and walking trips (such as the DofE) and enable you to be signed off as appropriate to lead.
